1) Start by preparing your surface. Apply two coats of paint to the pot with sponge brush. 

2) Stencil the top with red dots.  Edge the top of the pot and the bottom of the tray with red.  Seal the wood feet with all purpose sealer, let dry, paint wood feet red.  Let Dry. Using Elmer's wood glue, glue the feet in a triangle shape to the bottom of the tray.

3) Cut out your decoupage paper designs. Use a small pair of embroidery scissors.  Pre-arrange your designs on your surface. (Once you decoupage your design it cannot be removed.)

4) Remove white paper backing from cutout. Slightly water down your Elmer's glue-all.  Apply thin coat of glue to the back of your cutout, let set for 5 seconds until the paper uncurls.

5) Apply paper to your surface. With your fingers gently press from center toward ends working out any wrinkles. Make sure your ends are sealed to surface. You can use a stencil brush to seal the ends, by stippling. Clear up any excess glue with damp cloth. Let dry.

6) Using a single stroke, Apply one thin coat of decoupage glue to surface of design with a soft brush, let dry. Let cure for 48 hours. Apply two coats of water based semi-gloss varnish with a soft brush. I like Minwax semi-gloss water based varnish. Let dry.

7)  You can leave the pot, or line the top with a metallic krylon pen, I used gold.
